Joe From Cincinnati has joined some website that posts articles, videos, podcasts and blogs about A Game of Thrones LCG 2.0 Edition? I wonder what his first article will be about. Only question i have really is how many Gandalfs should a solo deck have - the start rule says take 1 Gandalf so is that the limit? If not then in the end i would prefer to tweak the game myself and have an extra Gandalf than say use the easy rules.I know what you’re thinking. Overall this went pretty smooth as i kept my threat low. This went much better, the nastier Orcs stayed hidden away and the spiders were more easily dispatched. Second game i included 2 Gandalfs (figuring that dual players would get 2 Gandalfs potentially between them) so i could allow myself a second help (albeit not played at same time).

I initially used 1 copy of Gandalf as per the starter rules.įirst game i was questing fine (unsurprising given this is hero strength) and got to the fork in the road before trouble from mounting Orcs in the staging area and the Chieftan plus a Beastmaster enagaged at once and took down the heros over 3 rounds as i couldnt place any damage on them.

But I had a pretty good time as well.Īs an update i got my first two games in playing solo Passage through Mirkwood with the Spirit deck and heros from the core set only. The rest of my family had a blast on their roller coasters and even the rainy day in the museum was fun. And this came after some heavy fighting to get to this point so just a point to each of them wiped out half my forces, including Aragorn, with the remaining heroes quickly overwhelmed after that.īut it wouldn't be a challenge if it was easy would it? And then the following round, another shadow effect did a point of damage to each of my characters. So the obvious thing to do is get the Ungoliant Spawn that you need to kill to win and that is what I did, got my guys to hit it for 5 points of damage and was ready to do that again (which would kill it), but a shadow effect caused my attackers to become exhausted so they couldn't attack that round. So I had gotten to that point, strayed off the path and the game instructs you to go get a spider card from discard or deck and add it to the staging area. The first scenario is clever, because in it, you complete the first two objectives and then there is a Fork in the Road and you pick the final part at random - you either stay on the path and find your way out or you stray off the path and you have to kill the big spider to escape. That pretty much got me playing and I played it 3 times solo with the core set Leadership deck and lost each time.

I watched Rodney Smith's series of videos to learn how to play it, browsing over the rule book as I did. I figured there were probably enough session reports detailing how much trouble they had getting through Mirkwood, so I didn't write it up. Then finally, I play the New Game, which was The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.

But in addition to pointing you at those, I have a few additional comments while I tie the thing together in this blog post. Now one advantage (?) of a solo game is that you can take notes as extensive as you like to aid in the write-up of the game and I wrote up enough to make full-on session reports. I sketched out a plan for the day and the first two were what I thought of as my first solo games. But more on that game later.Ĭome Saturday morning, up early (I have a canine alarm clock). I had a nice chat with the guy in the store about it too. I knew what game I wanted that to be, but my nearest game store, I knew, was out of stock so I went to another, hoping against hope they would have it (while making a mental note of some back-up options should they be out). The first part (which was actually Friday night) was going to the game store (always an important move) to get a game I could play solo. The answer, which should be no shock to anyone reading the subject line, was a Solo Game Marathon. My wife suggested to me some work in the garden I might do while they were away, but regrettably it pretty much rained all day Saturday.

I got left behind, partly because I had to work and partly because it simplified the 'what do we do with the pets?' question. A couple of weekends ago, my wife took the kids out of town for Spring Break, taking in some roller coasters and museums down in the Charlotte area.
